New Feature : With any cut to size or Create Carcas projects, various cabinetry fittings can now be purchased.

Cabinet Carcasses Explained

Building a kitchen, wardrobe or any other storage system firstly requires a carcass. It is the foundation stone in constructing various types of furniture.

Most design ideas rely on carcasses in order to build the shapes and dimensions required. The carcass is not only concealed, but can also be an exposed part of the furniture. Using various drilling patterns and internal configurations, it can become an extremely invaluable storage solution. At CBJ, we allow complete design flexibility and a huge choice of different materials to work with. The only limitation is your imagination.

What we do

Our Create Assembly function is a new feature found under the Board Cut To Size section, launched in June 2017. It offers a complete online solution to create custom cabinetry plus an instant quotation. Whether you’re a professional cabinet maker or a complete novice, by following our step-by step-guide you can create a whole range of furnishings including wardrobes, kitchens and more to your exact dimensions and colour finishes.

Our carcass assembly templates are designed specifically to accommodate any demanding requirements whether it’s a bedroom wardrobe, a study, kitchen, media centre - in fact any kind of storage you like!

At Chigwell Building & Joinery, we’re working tirelessly to bring together a huge variety of units and complete assemblies for you to choose from. Our aim is to release new templates every two weeks, of which many different variations can be created to fulfil the needs of even the most demanding and creative builders. If however, you can’t find a template to suit your needs, simply contact us or call on and we’ll be happy to discuss your requirements.

How We Do It

All templates under the section are flexible for altering internal configurations as well as external dimensions to your individual requirements. Every item is customisable and any material within the allowed thickness range can be used. Based on your selections and specifications input onto the page, our system will generate a cutting list, your edge banging requirements, your drilling programmes and patterns as needed.

If a drawer box or standalone draw is selected, we will supply the necessary drawer runners and fixings. When doors are selected, drilling as well as hinges and fixings will also be supplied. A selection of shelves with drill holes to the sides of the carcass plus adjustable shelf pegs will also be supplied as necessary. So whichever option you select, we’ll ensure you have all the ironmongery needed to complete your creation. All item drawings will be shown to exact scale.

Pricing

As our online facility is a completely bespoke service with an option to use any material you desire, we cannot offer a fixed price for Individual units. After generating a cutting list based on your chosen templates, measurements and selected options; all parts are then optimised for cutting. Where possible, the minimum number of boards possible will be used to reduce waste. This will include the carcass as well as other individual parts where the material used is the same.

A single carcass tends to cost more than larger orders as this will produce more waste after cutting your required materials. Larger orders with a bigger quantity of cabinets and standalone parts will have less wastage, meaning you get better value for you money.

At the end of the set up process, a final cost for each operation will be displayed in separate tabs.

Boards - number of boards required for the project as well as patterns including cutting time.

Edge Banding - will show the edge banding required in metres, including costs for material.

Machining - machining will have all items broken down individually with costs displayed.

Ironmongery - number and type of fixings required will be displayed including costs.

Spray Finishing - will calculate areas and displayed cost per metre with totals.

We hope this new feature will open up an endless number of possibilities on how bespoke cabinetry can be brought into the next century for both trade customers and the general public. For more details on how to use this feature, please watch our video tutorial or contact us.
